Iconography constitutes a priceless source to apprehend the historical figure of the hero. Based on this premise, the following article shows the reader a path through some of the most important portraits from the emblematic hero-father of the Mexican Mother/ Country: Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (1753 - 1811). His name has been hugely mystified to such level that it has diminished the names of other heroes in the Mexican pantheon. La iconografía constituye una valiosa herramienta para aprehender la figura histórica del héroe. A partir de esta premisa, el artículo que se presenta ofrece al lector un recorrido por algunos de los retratos más importantes del héroe - Padre de la Patria mexicana: Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (1753 - 1811). Hidalgo ha sido mitificado hasta tal grado que ha opacado a otros héroes del panteón mexicano.
