A facile synthesis of (±)-frontalin

Abstract

Frontalin was prepared by the epoxidation and intramolecular cyclization of6-methyl-6–hepten–2-one. The latter was synthesized by 1,2–addition of a mixedcuprate, formed from methallyl magnesium chloride, and methyl vinyl ketone. Theoverall yield was 56%.
