Farmacogenética, polimorfismos y algunas implicaciones clínicas

Abstract

Cuando se habla de farmacogenética o polimorfismos es importante buscar el eslabón que vincule la ciencia básica con la práctica clínica. Existen muchos factores que pueden mediar en la respuesta medicamentosa tales como: la edad, función orgánica y metabólica del paciente, presencia de tratamientos concomitantes, posibles interacciones medicamentosas e inclusive el tipo de patología. El conocer las características genéticas individuales de la población, a partir de una serie de exámenes o procedimientos, facilitaría optimizar y ajustar dosis para una respuesta medicamentosa dada y/o tomar las previsiones necesarias con respecto al comportamiento fisiopatológico del paciente. El estudio de la farmacogenética evidencia el rol de la herencia (polimorfismo genético) en la respuesta individual a la terapia establecida facilitando seleccionar el fármaco y la dosis individual para cada paciente en su situación precisa. When talking about pharmacogenetics and polymorphisms, it is important to look for a link between basic science and clinical practice. There are many factors that effect drug response such as age, patient organic and metabolic function, concomitant treatments, possible drug interactions and even the type of pathology. Being able to know the genetic characteristics of each person of the population from a set of procedures and test, would make it easier to optimize and adjust the dose for a given medical response and take previsions about the pathophysiologic status of the patient. The study of pharmacogenetics proves the roll of heritage (genetic polimorfism) in the individual response to therapy, making the drug and dosage selection for each patient easier in a specific situation.
